How To Choose A Heel You Can Walk In

The prettiest pump in the shop is the wrong pair if you cannot cross a room in it. At Roop Shoes we fit heels the same way we fit runners: by how the foot lands.
Start with the pitch. A 2 inch block heel keeps the weight closer to the center of the foot. A thin stiletto looks sharp and asks more from the ball of the foot. If you will be standing for a reception, choose the block.
Then check the toe box. Pointed toes look longer, and they need a half size of ease if your toes are wide. Walk the length of the store, turn, and walk back. A heel that pinches in the first minute will not improve at dinner.
Finish with the sole. A leather sole is classic. A thin rubber insert at the forefoot keeps you steady on tile and on the sidewalk outside our Bordentown shop.
